Dana Elaine Owens better known by her stage name Queen Latifah is an American performer and actress. Queen Latifah is an American actress, rapper and singer. Queen Latifah was raised in Newark, NJ. She is the daughter of Rita Owens Sr. and Lancelot Owens Jr. The couple divorced when Latifah was just 10 years old. Latifah attended a Catholic school and received her education within Newark New Jersey. She attended at the Baptist church. Her stage name Latifah which means delicate and compassionate in Arabic was given to her her aunt when she was only eight. Latifah is an extremely tall 5'10 girl who was on the high school basketball team. The song she sang was"Home" from The Wiz at a school play. Latifah started beatboxing for the rap group Ladies Fresh. Latifah became part of the Flavor Unit in its original version, made up of an MC team led by producer DJ Mark The 45 King. Mark James aka the DJ Mark the 40 King recorded an audition for the rapper Princess of the Posse by Queen Latifah. He sent the recording to Yo! MTV Raps the Fab Five Freddy. Dante Ross of Tommy Boy Music who was working for Latifah at the time was awed by her track. The song was released in 1988. Wrath of My Madness as Latifah's debut single.
