April Ross
April Ross is only one of only a handful of beach volleyball players who have earned medals at least twice in an Olympics. In Tokyo in the coming days, she'll be aiming to claim her third Olympic medal alongside first-time Olympian Alix Klineman. Ross also hopes to get her very first Olympic medal. In fact, at 39 this may be her last opportunity to do so. She's certain that the top prizes are in reach. If we do our top or do well, I believe we can get that gold medal Ross stated on NBC Boston. In addition, I'm planning to rely on a bit of good luck. Ross was born in California, Costa Mesa in the year 1982. Her parents as well as her sister resided in the area. In addition to competing in various sport, she also attended Newport Harbor High School. Being a pre-athlete she was also a participant in indoor volleyball and track. She stood out however in this sport. In her college volleyball season, according to her college bio, she was an outside-hitter, middle-blocker and setter. In recognition of her accomplishments she was awarded the Gatorade Award for National Player 1999. In 2000, she won the Orange County Athlete of the of the year for volleyball. Even though Ross Klineman and Ross are a couple since the year 2017, Klineman had already been a major athlete on the beach even before the pair formed. The American has been a major winner in tournaments twice with different partners. The other is an icon of the volleyball world. She teamed up along with Jennifer Kessy from 2007-2013, and was also Klineman's trainer. Kessy and Ross were strong on the world circuit, winning the 2009 World Championship together. They went into winning a silver at the 2012 Olympic Games at London. Misty Maytreanor (Jennings) as well as Misty Maytreanor took home gold overtaking them. It was fate that had them. Ross became Walsh Jennings' new partner as May-Treanor stepped down. They both won bronze in beach volleyball at the Rio Olympics of 2016. Ross competed for USC Trojans during her college days, prior to becoming a professional. She had a great run through the college. When she was a freshman at the school in 2000 she earned Pac-10 and NCAA All-American Freshman of Year honors and earned an All-American. She was also a key player to help the Trojans reach it to the Final Four. She suffered a devastating personal loss during her sophomore year however she was able to return her place as an All-American. In her final two seasons with the Trojans she was instrumental in helping them to win two consecutive titles. Individually she had cemented herself as an all-time great winning the 2003-2004 Honda Sports Award as the most outstanding female college volleyball player. Ross took a course in International Relations at USC. Margie Ross was not able to see Ross become the highest beach volleyball level. Ross's mother Margie died in 2001, when Ross was a USC sophomore. Her breast cancer had been diagnosed. Ross is still awed by her late parent. Margie is a beach lover and in daily life, inspires her.
